Corberán: “The players’ energy was key”
The coach talks after the 2-1 win over Girona FC
Carlos Corberán reviewed Valencia CF's 2-1 win at Mestalla against Girona FC in his post-match press conference.
Analysis of the game
“It was a very difficult game. We knew that it would be, because Girona are very difficult to control; they enjoy a lot of possession. They offered up something different today, and the players' energy was key. The second half was more controlled by us; I think we were the better side until the second goal, and that goal, when you need the points, affects you emotionally. Even so, the idea was to stick together. Dimitrievski was key to us getting the three points, and we thank our fans too; we owe this victory to them.”
Dimitrievski
“I'm not one to make predictions about the future, but I can speak about the present, and Dimitrievski deserves praise. He's been vital in the last four points we’ve earned. I've always felt we had the goalkeeping position well covered. Julen started out there, but Dimitrievski was able to work and wait for his time, and when it came, he's been giving us a lot, just like his teammates in other positions. For Valencia CF, it was essential to have two goalkeepers of the quality to be starters.”
His expectations
"I experience football without expectations. I take things one game at a time. From the start, it's been demanding and difficult, and I'm happy to see how the team haven't faltered at any point. The league table is getting tighter, and there are details that make the difference between winning and losing games. We've shown character, we haven't fallen apart, and I'm very happy about that."
The importance of the fans
"Everyone at Valencia CF feels indebted to the fans. From now until the end of the season, starting today, we know that Mestalla is vital in helping us get points."
The high stakes
"Everything is on the line. With 39 points, we know we're still not safe, so we have to go for the next 3 points. We feel we have a debt to ourselves for not getting more points, so we're pushing hard and want to give the fans the best we can. There are 15 points left to play for, which is a huge amount, and we're aiming to get as many points as possible."
